In 2009, Patriot Foundry & Castings, a leading nonferrous company, pledged to slash its industrial energy footprint by 25% or more before 2020 as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Better Plants Program. The program is being run by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. For Patriot, energy intensity is measured by the total amount of BTUs it takes to produce one pound of saleable castings.
Patriot Foundry & Castings was informed on February 7, 2013, it had achieved this accomplishment by reducing its energy intensity by 57.94% through the end of 2012!
Since Patriot had achieved its goal, the energy pledge was reset at the beginning of 2013 to reduce its energy intensity by another 25%!
Patriot was informed on March 30, 2014 as follows, “You have successfully saved 25.13% of your energy intensity since last year, and since 2012 is your new baseline year, you have saved 25.13% right out of the gate! Congratulations!”.
Patriot continues to improve its overall efficiencies in terms of productivity, quality, and energy usage with best practices and cutting edge casting equipment.
