Patriot Foundry & Castings, a leading nonferrous company, has pledged to slash its industrial energy intensity by 2020 as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Save Energy Now LEADER Program.
Patriot Foundry & Castings’ leadership is committing to reducing the foundry’s energy use intensity by 25% or more over before 2020. The process includes designating an energy manager, developing an energy intensity baseline and crafting an energy management plan. The program is being run by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
By taking the pledge, Patriot Foundry & Castings received access to an individual technical account manager and expert technical assistance from the Department of Energy. Working with an energy expert, Patriot Foundry will develop a plan that’s tailored to the company’s operations and product output that meets or exceeds reporting requirements.
Patriot Foundry’s new ownership, who took over the business in 2008, have already made a myriad of improvements to the foundry in recent years. Since the new owners gained control, almost every piece of casting equipment has either been replaced or repaired. Product quality and consistency has also improved considerably.
